Frequently Asked Questions

ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) is a research-based therapy that uses positive reinforcement to teach new skills, improve communication, and reduce behaviors that interfere with learning. It is considered the gold standard for supporting children with autism and other developmental differences.

Our team starts with a thorough assessment conducted by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This allows us to create a personalized treatment plan that targets your child’s unique strengths, challenges, and goals. We also involve parents and caregivers in goal-setting so the plan feels relevant and meaningful.

Depending on your child’s needs, we may focus on:

  • Communication (verbal, sign, or device-based)
  • Social interaction and play skills
  • Self-help skills (toileting, dressing, eating)
  • Reducing challenging behaviors
  • Improving attention, following directions, and classroom readiness

Sunshine Care ABA offers flexible service options:

  • In-Home: Delivered in your child’s natural environment for maximum comfort
  • In-School: Coordinated with teachers and staff for skill generalization
  • Community-Based: At playgrounds, libraries, or other real-world settings
We collaborate with you to choose the setting(s) that best support your child’s success.

This varies depending on your child’s goals and assessment results. Some children benefit from a few hours per week, while others need more intensive support. Your BCBA will work with you to recommend an evidence-based number of hours that fits your family’s schedule.

Your child’s care team will include:

  • BCBA: Designs and oversees the treatment plan, tracks progress, and adjusts goals as needed.
  • Behavior Technician (BT/RBT): Works directly with your child to implement the plan, under BCBA supervision.
  • Parents/Caregivers: Receive training to carry over strategies at home.

Most insurance plans now cover ABA therapy for children with an autism diagnosis. Our team can assist you with verifying benefits and guiding you through any authorization or paperwork requirements.

Every child is unique, but many parents begin to notice small improvements—such as better communication or reduced frustration—within the first few months. Consistency is key, and we will regularly review progress with you to celebrate wins and adjust goals as needed.

We use positive, proactive strategies to understand why a behavior is happening and teach safer, more effective replacement skills. We avoid punitive approaches and focus on creating a supportive environment for learning.

Parent participation is an essential part of ABA therapy. We provide parent training sessions to give you tools and strategies that reinforce your child’s learning at home and in the community—this leads to faster, more lasting progress.
